I'm 16 living in the United States... and I'm raising bees. I wanted to create this blog to record and share my adventure as well as get and give advice. I'm going onto my second year of raising honey bees and it's going really well. I first got the idea after reading, The Hobbit. I read the scene where they come upon Beorn's flower fields for his bees, and immediately fell in love. Now more than ever we need to support these magnificent creatures. I'm glad to be doing my small part.

Burr Comb
When I inspected last week, much to my disappointment; there was a lot of burr comb. This was disheartening as I had to remove all my little bee's hard work including a good amount of pollen stores and brood. The only thing that made it a bit easier was that it was mostly drone brood. I'll be posting some pics of this soon. Besides that the hive seems to be buzzing busily.

I don't think I understand the premise of burr comb. I also have an article titled 'Buzz Off! Backyard beekeeping is riling neighbors.'
ReplyDeleteConcerns folks who don't give them an adequate food and water supply. We will talk next weekend and you can give me a show and tell. It is so interesting. Love you, Nana
I've actually seen that article and I think it is completely ludicrous. I was so enraged when I read it I was going to write a letter to the author, it didn't work out though. And I'll be happy to explain burr comb when you get here.
